METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods for removing gum from concrete usually depends on how long the gum has been stuck there and the level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the gum was left recently and it hasn’t penetrated the surface yet, we might be able to get it off by covering it with ice until it freezes, then scraping it off with a metal putty knife.

The ice forces the gum to freeze into a workable consistency compared to a gooey and sticky mess. Once the chewing gum is frozen, we slide a metal putty knife or scraper under the gum. After that we move the scraper very slowly under the gum and the whole piece should peel right off of the concrete.

The above process is only possible with gum that is brand new.

When we remove chewing gum that has turned black, or is smashed down into the concrete surface, we use a hot water pressure washer with the heat dialed up to 200 Degrees to melt the gum. For this type of gum removal service, we will not use very high pressure because that might harm the surface of the concrete!

Our pressure washers never uses any more pressure than necessary to clean concrete surfaces. These surfaces can be damaged much easier than people think, especially if they’re only a few years old. Concrete can take up to 100 years to cure. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our gum removal professional.
